OLIVEBIOME Presentation Webinar

The OLIVEBIOME Supra-autonomous Operational Group presents its project aimed at transforming by-products from the olive agroindustry into prebiotics and probiotics for poultry and swine feed.

The OLIVEBIOME group will hold a free online webinar on Wednesday, February 12 at 10:30 a.m. to introduce the innovation project titled:
“Biotechnological development of prebiotics and probiotics for animal feed (poultry and swine) from olive pomace fiber and other vegetable by-products.”
The initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of the poultry and swine sectors to the effects of climate change by valorizing by-products from the olive agroindustry and other agri-food sources.

The OLIVEBIOME project explores the prebiotic and probiotic potential of olive industry by-products, as well as their combination with other agro-industrial residues, with the goal of reducing antibiotic use in animal production and improving gut health in farm animals.

OLIVEBIOME is a joint effort led by key entities in the sector, committed to circular economy and sustainability. The group aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the European Green Deal, particularly the “Farm to Fork” strategy, which promotes more sustainable, healthy, and efficient agri-food systems.

During the webinar, the project’s objectives, ongoing activities, and early outcomes will be presented. Attendees will also learn about the sustainable innovation actions that OLIVEBIOME is implementing to improve the quality of animal production, optimize fermentation processes, and promote sustainable by-product management.

The session will include presentations from representatives of several OLIVEBIOME partner entities, who will share their perspectives and describe their key roles in the project. Speakers include representatives from:
FUNDACIÓN EMPRESA UNIVERSIDAD GALLEGA (FEUGA), San Miguel Arcángel S.A., Maslina International Trade, S.L., and Lucta S.A.
The consortium also includes other organizations such as AINIA, the Institute of Fat-CSIC, Microomics Systems S.L., and the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA).
